when I appreciated the roles of parenting

My mother taught me how to walk in heels.

She taught me how to tip-toe in pumps when I didn't want to be heard,

And stomp my kitten heels into the ground when I wanted to make an entrance.

She taught me to wear wedges on lawns and stilettos on floors,

And to pay the extra money for good quality footwear.

She taught me the importance of arch support and material maintenance, to make both my feet and shoes go the distance.

She taught me not to remove my heels before the night was over, because they hurt to put back on and you end up with dirty feet.

She taught me how to spot trends, read styles and find sales.

She taught me to straighten my spine and swing my hips to give my glutes an extra lift.

My mother taught me how to walk in heels.

My father taught me how to get up when I inevitably fall down.

Because walking in heels is really, really hard.
