when I was afraid of change

I'm scared to leave
This life I weave
For the tear I'd leave behind.
I'd hate to go
If doing so
Would rip a seam of mine.
The cloth, if torn
Would then adorn
An ill-embroidered scar.
Or clumsy patch
That wouldn't match
The tapestry so far.
And so I hide
All wrapped inside
My fabric, swallowed whole.
Woven in
And stretched too thin
For fear of a gaping hole.
